Location & surrounding area

Osterspai is located in the valley of castles and of the Loreley, on the Large Rhine Loop, where the Rhine flows from West to East. It’s opposite the vineyards of “Bopparder Hamm”, between forests and fruit gardens, indulged by a mild climate, a beautiful piece of nature!

Small, comfortable alleys with many restored half timbered houses characterise the look of Osterspai. In 1998 the town won the 1st district prize of the main class in the competition “Our village should be more beautiful – our village has a future.” The Baroque St Martin's Church and the former moated castle, Wasserburg, from the 13th century at the heart of the

...can find the Liebeneck castle. It is currently privately owned. The town offers good access to the extensive walking trails along the heights of the Rhine – the Rheinhöhen Rheinsteig.

It is very easily accessible from Osterspai both in a Northern direction (Marksburg, Braubach), and a Southern direction (Kestert, St. Goarshausen). Comfortable pubs and sights make Osterspai a very special kind of holiday resort.

Just a few kilometres away is the lovely Loreley, which can be reached easily by car, boat or bus. Loreley, or Lorelei, is a 132 metres high shale rock rising out of the Rhine at St Goarshausen. According to the ballad, a mermaid called Loreley sat on this rock and allured the Rhine boatmen with her voice. Due to her unbelievably beautiful song, they did not heed the dangerous current and the rocky reefs, and smashed their boats. It was also characteristic that she combed her long blond hair with a golden comb.
